Figuring out whether your Android phone supports eSIM isn't as simple as it sounds. Unlike Apple, which drew a clean line at the iPhone XS and XR, Android eSIM support varies wildly by brand, model, and even the region you bought your phone in.

Below, we break down exactly which Android devices support eSIM by brand, plus the best eSIM plans and how to get one activated.

The Full List of Android Phones that Support eSIM

The market is flooded with Android devices across a range of specifications and price points. Below are the eSIM-compatible smartphones from the most popular brands in Norway.

Samsung Devices Compatible with eSIM

  • Samsung Galaxy S Series: S20, S20+, S20 Ultra, S21, S21+, S21 Ultra, S22, S22+, S22 Ultra, S23, S23+, S23 Ultra, S24, S24+, S24 Ultra, S24 FE, S25, S25+, S25 Ultra, S25 Edge, S25 FE, S26, S26+, S26 Ultra
  • Samsung Galaxy A Series: A54, A55 5G, A56, A57 5G, A35 5G, A36, A23 5G
  • Samsung Galaxy Z Series: Fold2 5G, Fold3 5G, Fold4, Fold5 5G, Fold6 5G, Fold7, TriFold, Flip, Flip3 5G, Flip4, Flip5 5G, Flip6 5G, Flip7, Flip7 FE
  • Samsung Galaxy Note Series: Note 20, Note 20 Ultra 5G

Note: the region of purchase plays a real role in eSIM compatibility. Select devices sold in South Korea and Hong Kong may not support eSIM at all.

Google Pixel Devices Compatible with eSIM

  • Pixel 3, 3 XL, 3a, 3a XL
  • Pixel 4, 4 XL, 4a 5G
  • Pixel 5, 5a 5G
  • Pixel 6, 6a, 6 Pro
  • Pixel 7, 7a, 7 Pro
  • Pixel 8, 8a, 8 Pro
  • Pixel 9, 9a, 9 Pro, 9 Pro XL, 9 Pro Fold
  • Pixel 10, 10a, 10 Pro, 10 Pro XL, 10 Pro Fold

The same regional caveats apply here. We've left out the Pixel 2 and 2 XL, since their eSIMs only ever worked when the phones were purchased through Google Fi in the US.

Xiaomi, Redmi & Poco Devices Compatible with eSIM

Xiaomi eSIM support is more limited and more region-dependent than most other brands, so it's worth double-checking your exact model and firmware before assuming it works.

  • Xiaomi: 12T Pro, 13, 13 Lite, 13 Pro, 13T, 13T Pro, 14, 14T, 14 Pro, 14T Pro, 15, 15T, 15T Pro, 15 Ultra, 17, 17 Ultra
  • Poco: X7, X8 Pro Max, F8 Pro, F8 Ultra
  • Redmi: Note 13 Pro, Note 13 Pro+, Note 14 Pro 5G, Note 14 Pro+ 5G, Note 15 Pro, Note 15 Pro+

Two important caveats with Xiaomi devices specifically:

  • Firmware matters as much as hardware. eSIM only works on Global or EEA ROM. China ROM disables eSIM at the system level, even on a phone model that otherwise supports it.
  • Entry-level Redmi and Poco models generally don't have eSIM hardware at all. Support is concentrated in the Pro/Pro+ tier and above.

Motorola Devices Compatible with eSIM

  • Razr Series: Razr 5G, Razr 2019, Razr 2022, Razr 2024, Razr+ 2024, Razr 50, Razr 50 Ultra, Razr 60, Razr 60 Ultra, Razr 40, Razr 40 Ultra, Razr (2025), Razr+ (2025), Razr Ultra (2025)
  • Edge Series: Edge (2022), Edge (2023), Edge (2024), Edge (2025), Edge 40, Edge 40 Pro, Edge 40 Neo, Edge 50, Edge 50 Neo, Edge 50 Pro, Edge 50 Ultra, Edge 50 Fusion, Edge 60, Edge 60 Pro, Edge 60 Fusion, Edge 60 Stylus
  • Moto G Series: G34, G35, G52J 5G, G53, G53J 5G, G54 5G, G54 Power, G55, G75, G85, G86, G Power (2024), G Power (2025), G Stylus 5G (2024)
  • ThinkPhone 25
  • Motorola's eSIM rollout started with the 2019 Razr, and it's now standard across most Razr, Edge, and higher-end Moto G models. Budget devices and anything released before 2021 typically won't have it.

OnePlus Devices Compatible with eSIM

  • OnePlus 11
  • OnePlus 12 Series: 12, 12R
  • OnePlus 13 Series: 13, 13T, 13R
  • OnePlus 15
  • OnePlus Open

Devices from Other Brands that are Compatible with eSIM

The brands above are among the most popular in Norway. The ones below have a smaller but still meaningful user base here.

  • 200 Series: 200, 200 Pro

  • Reno Series: 5A, 6 Pro 5G, 7A, 9A, 13, 13 Pro, 14, 14 Pro, 14F, 15, 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max, 15F
  • Find N Series: N2 Flip, N3, N3 Flip, N5
  • A55s 5G

Realme:

GT7, GT8 Pro, 14 Pro+

Sony:

Xperia Ace III, Xperia 1 IV, Xperia 1 V, Xperia 1 VI, Xperia 1 VII, Xperia 5 IV, Xperia 5 V, Xperia 10 V, Xperia 10 VI

Nothing:

Phone 3, 3a Pro

Huawei:

P40, Mate 40 Pro, P40 Pro, Pura 70 Pro, Pura X

As with every brand on this list, always confirm your specific model and region before buying an eSIM plan. Huawei devices sold outside the EU, in particular, often ship without Google Mobile Services or full eSIM support, so check your settings first.

How to Activate an eSIM on an Android Phone

Activating an eSIM on your Android phone is pretty straightforward. Here's what you need:

  • A mobile plan from a carrier with eSIM support
  • A stable internet connection

And here's how to do it:

  1. Purchase a prepaid plan from Lyca Mobile.
  2. Look for the activation QR code in your order confirmation email.
  3. Connect to the internet and scan the QR code.
  4. Follow the on-screen prompts. Your Lyca Mobile eSIM and prepaid plan will activate on your Android device.
  5. After activation, visit the SIM Registration page on the official Lyca Mobile website, click "Register now," and fill in your details. Once registered, you can use all the benefits included in your plan.

Conclusion

eSIMs are the upgrade to traditional physical SIM cards. Since they're 100% digital, you can purchase, activate, and register one without leaving your home, and there's zero wait for a card to arrive. The whole process takes roughly 15 minutes.

In a fast-moving world, that kind of convenience shouldn't be ignored. It's especially useful for tourists who want a mobile connection the moment they land.

Given how many phones now come with eSIM support, it's well on its way to being the norm. If your Android device is on this list and you're still using a physical SIM, it might be time to make the switch.

If you already have a physical SIM from Lyca Mobile, you can switch to an eSIM in your My Lyca dashboard. If not, you can select one of our best-selling plans from the top and get started.
